Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE)

After gaining independence from the United Kingdom in 1948, the Sinhalese-led Sri Lankan government adopted measures that were viewed as disadvantageous to the Tamil-minority communities. These measures are cited as the root causes behind the formation of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE).
